SlipNOT® Makes $5,000 Donation to Provide Students Across the Nation with School Supplies

Nov. 12, 2012—SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring has donated $5,000 to aid both local and nationwide schools. The donation was made through DonorsChoose.org and has affected 2,000 students at 16 schools, providing them with teaching supplies and materials.

DonorsChoose.org is site where k-12 teachers in all 50 states can post projects asking for donations for specific classroom needs. The non-profit organization has grown substantially since 2000, with 800,000 donors giving $105 million in funds to benefit 6.2 million students in classrooms in need. SlipNOT® chose to contribute to 16 projects including a teacher in Springfield, MA whose classroom had been destroyed by a tornado two years ago as well as projects that helped under-privileged girls and students with disabilities.

Another donation made by SlipNOT® allowed a physical education teacher to buy light-weight cage balls for her classroom in Pennsylvania. The balls are used to improve hand-eye coordination, develop upper body strength, and to fight obesity, which is one of the main goals in physical education classes today as research shows that one in three students in the United States is overweight or obese. The teacher expressed her gratitude saying, “The excitement the students will show when they see me bring these exercise balls out of the closet will melt your heart.”

The company’s focus was to help local schools as much as possible and seven of the chosen projects were schools in Southeast Michigan’s high-poverty areas. These donations contributed to the implementation of a recycling program, and bought books, a digital microscope, and a computer to help specials needs students communicate.
