Volkmann VS Conveying System Encloses Particulates During Transfer

Bristol, PA: The Volkmann VS pneumatic vacuum conveying system from process equipment manufacturer Volkmann USA, Bristol, PA, features an explosion-proof design that will aid in compliance with the NFPA 660 Standard for Combustible Dusts and Particulate Solids, which aims to consolidate NFPA 61, 484, 652, 654, 655, and 664 into a single standard. Eliminating electrostatic charges as a potential ignition source, the Volkmann vacuum conveyors automatically transfer ignitable powders in a sealed system without electricity. The conductive design safely dissipates any static charge, pneumatically driven, non-rotating parts eliminate heat generation as a source of ignition, and the enclosed system prevents nuisance dust from accumulating as a fuel source.

Suitable for the safe transfer of powders, pellets, granules, and other bulk materials, the Volkmann VS pneumatic vacuum conveyors also eliminate concern for the regulatory distinctions in the proposed standard among foods, metals, wood, chemicals, and other ingredients and materials. The automated conveyors remain explosion-proof whether transferring sugar, sawdust, or metal powder for 3D printing despite their inherently different combustible dust hazard risks.

Volkmann VS vacuum conveying systems earned the ATEX certification as proven safe for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and may be specified to transfer nearly any material in any ATEX dust zone, gas zone, or hybrid zone. The powder conveying system may be tested in the company's Bristol, PA test facility.
