THE SITUATION
Nissan of Canton was the first automotive plant to open in Mississippi. Since opening in 2003, the Canton manufacturer has produced more than 4 million vehicles, created 6,500 jobs locally, and a notable 25,000 jobs statewide. The 4.7 million square foot facility produces the Altima, Frontier, Murano, NV Cargo, NV Passenger, Titan, and the Titan XD.

In addition to philanthropic & community contributions, the Nissan assembly plant also places value on the wellbeing of their workforce. SlipNOT® was contacted for a slippery flooring solution for enter/exit ramps from their conveyor and racking areas of 6000 ton presses that were compromised due to very oily conditions.

THE SOLUTION
Previously, Nissan had ordered a sheet of SlipNOT® to test in a high traffic zone within their plant. After a successful trial, the automotive plant contacted SlipNOT® and reviewed the project specifications for the new area needing slip resistance. They were provided with (12) 1” x 3/16” x 35-13/16” x various sized Grade 2, 19-4 steel grating that were painted black. SlipNOT® is a long-lasting, high quality product. The longevity of the coating depends on the environment, traffic demand, and proper care-and-cleaning practices.

THE IMPACT
The non-slip grating ramps located around the manufacturing machinery is preforming well in the consistently high traffic and oily environment. SlipNOT® has been utilized in other US Nissan facilities, contributing to the mission of safe walking surfaces. SlipNOT® will provide workers with a peace of mind and sure footing, positively resulting in an increase in productivity.
