SteamCabinets

LEWCO, Inc. recently delivered (4) custom live steam heated drum cabinets to a leading company in the petrochemical industry. As part of the customers manufacturing process, their material needs to be heated to 200°F. prior to mixing and blending it with other ingredients.

Each cabinet can hold up to 32 55-gallon drums and is heated using live steam. This heating process transfers energy into the drum much faster than traditional convection heating. The live steam condenses on the outside surface of the drums and gives off energy directly into the drum when the steam changes to liquid. LEWCO’s unique stainless-steel construction helps minimize the live steam from escaping the cabinet and keep condensate leakage to a minimum.

The cabinets include LEWCO’s standard digital controls housed in a NEMX 4X control panel. The temperature of the cabinets is controlled by the steam pressure and a thermocouple actuated modulating control valve.

The petrochemical industry typically has strict specifications for process heating equipment. LEWCO’s Senior Application Engineer, Lou Schaefer, worked very closely with the customer’s engineering consulting firm to develop a cost-effective solution to win the contract.
