Arlington, TX – January 14, 2013 – American Excelsior Company has entered their 125th year of successful business. AEC is one of the only companies that can say that they are still making one of the same products that they did 125 years ago. That product is “excelsior.” Although many people do not know what excelsior is, there is a good chance they have seen it. Excelsior is defined as long, stranded wood fibers, also known as “wood wool.” Around the globe, this product has many applications and is most known for its uses in the packaging industry for its operation for protective cushioning, erosion control blankets to protect soil, display purposes such as baskets, evaporative cooling as a cooling pad, wall or ceiling boards, along with many functions in the filtration and other specialty applications.
In the early days of excelsior, this product was used as a cushioning material that was used inside of furniture and mattresses. When flexible foams came onto the scene in the 1950’s, the new plastic material began to replace excelsior in mattresses and furniture. American Excelsior Company recognized the opportunity the new product presented and became one of the first fabricators in the country of flexible foams. Today AEC is the largest producer of excelsior as well as one of the largest flexible foam fabricators and molders in the country.
As an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company, American Excelsior Company is an employee owned company and is proud to represent the fact to their associated and customers. A number of activities throughout the year are planed to celebrate the 125th anniversary some of which are already underway. The celebration kicked off by each associate receiving an embroidered jacket that contained a special logo created just for the occasion.
President and CEO, Terry Sadowski said, “I am proud to be associated with American Excelsior Company and all of the associates that make this great company what it is today. When you look back over the many years of successful history the company has enjoyed, the success was driven by the people and their dedication to the company they worked for and owned. We are known in the industry as a company that is ethical, honest, and one that values their associate owners, who are our greatest resource. I couldn’t agree more, I am proud of our entire team and I am honored to hold the position of President and CEO at this very special time in the company’s history.”
