International Plastics recently posted a blog on their website featuring a young lady’s creative repurposing of plastic ziplock bags, and they weren’t the only ones who took notice of the unique garb. Several companies and individuals with an online presence have spotlighted this photo of the designer’s friend, Jaya, modeling the young fashionista’s bold use of sandwich bags as the material for an accommodating, if not entirely practical or glamorous, jacket. From personal and DIY blogs, to radio stations and even the Tosh.0 blog, photos and commentary on the coat have been circulating the internet for over week.

Of course there have been jokes: “Her style is just so fresh”, “kind of embarrassing her mom still packs her jacket,” and “oops, I was just reaching for your Cheetos.” Amid the jokes, there is endless praise for the appetizing apparel, which Diana made simply by sewing re-sealable Ziploc bags together and adding buttons, one on the collar and on each cuff. When Jaya posted pictures of herself rockin’ this receptacle raiment on Tumblr, she and Diana probably had no idea of the massive response the photos would receive. At the very least, the creation is amusing; and, to some, downright inspiring as people have expressed interest in making their own. International Plastic’s blog comments on the positivity that can result by drawing attention to the versatility of plastic and plastic bags, and one person’s creative commitment to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
