Welcome to our new blog, Why Wood You? We are really excited about this here at Robinson Industries. How do you like the name?

We held a contest with our office employees and we had some great suggestions. Why Wood You? from Michael Keen, one of our salespeople, won. To me, Why Wood You? can take on many different meanings and that’s what we plan to do with this blog. The obvious meaning is the wood versus plastic discussion, and, of course, we in the plastics industry all ask the question: “Why would you use wood instead of plastic?”

Other topics we are excited to talk about include new things happening in our industry, some really cool history of the plastics industry and our company, some fun uses for plastic and much more.

Here’s a little glimpse of topics to come. Why would you only use your plastic ice-fishing sled for ice fishing? My friends use theirs for hauling wood, giving the kids a ride around the yard, cleaning fish and game and some other uses that are limited only by their wild imaginations.

My grandparents, Fred and Ardis Robinson, probably asked themselves, “Why would you keep working at Dow Chemical when you had some really inventive ideas about ways to start your own company in the fledgling plastics industry?” Luckily for all of us in this industry, they started Robinson Industries in 1947.
