Eriez® President and CEO to present at 15th International Automobile Recycling Congress (IARC 2015)

February 16, 2015 - "Company News"

Eriez® President and CEO to present at 15th International Automobile Recycling Congress Tim Shuttleworth, Eriez® President and CEO, will present a paper titled “Profitability Clearing the Chinese ‘Green Fence’” at the 15th International Automobile Recycling Congress (IARC 2015). The event will be held March 25-27 in Berlin, Germany. Eriez-Europe will be a featured exhibitor.

Shuttleworth’s presentation will focus on Eriez’ breakthrough technology to increase purity levels while maintaining total metals recovery. Shuttleworth explains, “Chinese import regulations were boosted with the so-called ‘Green Fence’ initiative in 2013 wherein the Chinese set an upper limit of two percent waste in the metal commodities being imported. Without the right process, this level of purity can lead to lowered total recovery and loss of valuable metals.” He continues, “Eriez decided to apply a well-known processing technique from the world of mineral processing to increase the high purity level off the eddy current separator while maintaining or increasing total metal recovery. We concluded that 98 percent purity (grade) was achievable with high recovery of total available aluminium.”

When he delivers his paper at IARC 2015, Shuttleworth will describe how the mineral processing technique utilizes re-circulating streams so that the occasional misplacement of metal into the waste stream, or waste into a metal concentration stream, is self-corrected. He will also touch upon the science and maths behind the process, show illustrations to explain why particles occasionally misplace and go over Eriez’ test results and data to support this technology.

Shuttleworth is an active member of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), currently serving as Associate Board Member. He previously chaired the ISRI Equipment and Service Providers Council. Eriez is also a Gold member of BIR (Bureau of International Recycling).
